Read the conditions behind the data.
A technical value only makes sense alongside its test method and conditions.

Matching a material name or a single mechanical property does not establish application suitability. Read the standard, specimen preparation, temperature and conditioning information together.
When comparing flow measurements, check the temperature and load. For mechanical properties, test direction, reinforcement and moisture may affect the result. Values measured under different conditions should not be treated as direct equivalents.
Technical data sheets often describe typical properties. Establish the relationship between project requirements, batch documents and application tests. Keep the source, document date and revision in the material record.
